it is too often that we receive questions about the T2* levels for the heart and liver. please find below the levels. hope this information will be helpful
Levels depend on the method that is used, but standard values are:
Heart: by T2*: No cardiac iron, low risk of heart failure = more than 20ms
Moderate iron load = 10-19ms
High iron load = less than 10ms (desperate = less than 6ms)
Liver iron by MRI: Normal = up to 2mg Fe/ g dry weight
For thalassaemia patients ok = 3-7mg Fe/g dry weight
High iron load = 7-15mg Fe/g dry weight
Desperate = above 15mg Fe/g dry weight
